Formerly, many drills - like grammar or maths exercises - were available on CD ROMs and could be loaded onto local PCs. Indeed, such exercises are still sold and distributed on CDs, which sometimes accompany textbooks, but many can now be accessed on the web or as mobile apps.

Although these exercises fit for the most part with a behaviourist model of pedagogy, and are therefore very web 1.0 in nature, they can be designed to be attractive and appealing, especially if they take the form of quizzes and puzzles.
